  • Colors of October

The fall color peak has come and gone here in Minnesota.  Luckily, I captured some of nature’s finest on display earlier in the month.

The dew was still on this fallen leaf when I took this close-up picture.

    More frosty fallen leaves–

The oak trees are usually the last to start changing.  I know when their colors start to show that winter cannot be far behind.

A maple tree ablaze — no color adjustments on this picture at all — it really was this brilliant, and the sky really was this blue!

I love the quality of late afternoon sunlight — the way it illuminates the leaves is spectacular!

The early morning light can be quite interesting as well….

Fall color is not just confined to leaves — this apple’s bright red splash against the still-green leaves on the tree captured my eye.

Another leaf decorated by sparkling dewdrops.

This is the same picture I began this post with, edited for a different look.

This majestic maple tree stands in my very own yard.  It’s one of my favorite trees.

More berry-red color.  The fruits of fall — although we will leave these flowering crabapple berries for the birds!

I may have gotten carried away with my photo editing software on this picture.  I wanted to emphasize the way the red sumac seemed to POP against the background foliage, but it ended up a little dark and moody looking.

Taking a walk in the park — I wish you could have SMELLED what I did — that sweet, musky, fertile, earth smell, it was intoxicating!

    filtered sun

I was driving along a country road and these grasses were in the ditch — the way the sun was hitting them they looked like they were made of glass, or ice.  It stopped me in my tracks, literally.  I had to get out and take a picture (I was glad I had my camera handy!)  The pictures I took just don’t do them justice.

Do you see the snowflakes?  Since they looked so icy and snowy, I couldn’t resist adding this little touch, lol!  And again — I love the sunlight!

I know that this is considered a weed, and I wouldn’t want it growing in my lawn, but out where I found it it was like a diamond in the rough.

    Even more beautiful up close….

That is all for today.  More pictures tomorrow!

  • All of those pictures are just beautiful.  You seem to be a couple weeks ahead of us, weatherwise.  We haven’t had a frost yet this year.

  • WOW ~ all your pics are totally amazing!!!!!

  • @CndFrnd - We haven’t had a killing frost yet.  Yesterday was the coldest so far — my car thermometer said 29 degrees!

@Neeka1 - Thank you!  I find that I am really enjoying combining my camera and my computer.  I was a film die-hard for so long — but now I am a total digital convert .  No one is more surprised by it than I am!

  • OH MY!  Your pictures are ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!  They are REALLY REALLY AWESOME!  Thanks for sharing them with us!

  • These are gorgeous Leah. I can’t believe how fast the peak came and went this year.

  • i LOVE your pics! you did a great job with the photography. What type of camera do you have?

  • First of all . I always love your pictures! We are in about the same stage of Fall that you are, one of my favorite times of year. Keep posting those pics!

  • Those are really beautiful photos.  Nothing wrong with dark and moody!  I love them all.

  • @meganbarnard - I am glad you like them!

@MooncatBlue - I know — I blinked and suddenly it all turned drab.  Of course, the rain today doesn’t help.  Thanks for recommending this!

@fluttterfree - I use an Olympus SP-55.  The thing I really like about it is it’s 18x optical zoom lens.  Makes it ineccesary to carry around a clunky long-range zoom lens.  It also has a great macro (close-up) mode!  Thanks for the nice comments, the sub and the friend add!

@ETCACTOR -  Fall is a fabulous time of year, while it lasts!  Thanks for the recommendation!

@ThePhilsBlogBar - Thank you very much.

@ordinarybutloud - Well, I kind of liked it too, at least enough to post it publicly!

  • What beautiful pictures. God’s handiwork is amazing.

  • Oh Leah,  I would love to have the ability, the equipment and the time to take the pictures you do.  I love photography and wish I could do more of it.  These pictures are beautiful.  Have you ever thought of doing a self-publishing book for your cofee table or to give as gifts?  I know of a good self-publishing company, mypublisher.com.

  • @menskeet - Thank you!

@WriteOnWriteOn - I agree.  I am constantly amazed and inspired by the world God created.

@VJ - I have considered something along those lines.  I have used shutterfly for photo books highlighting family events, but have never done one with just my “pretty” pictures.  I have purchased shutterfly through the choir scrip program, so I might make a book using their software.  I looked at the one you mentioned, that looks like it would have some advantages over shutterfly….but the scrip thing gives shutterfly a bit of an edge.

  • @mommo5 - Anything to help the choir out – I understand that.  I would really encourage you to put a book together.  Those pictures are too beautiful to be shut up inside a computer, blog or camera.

  • Yesterday, my friend bought a MAC Cosmetics which is so beautiful, i am surprised by the design and style. Do you have a  mac eyeshadow now? if not, go to online store and have one, it is so amazing!!!   There are many online stores having wholesale MAC Cosmetics, i believe you gonna like it!I like Wholesale Mac Makeup as well and someone is looking for wholesale MAC Cosmetics? People usually prefer Cosmetics outlet, especially when they visit some wholesale MAC Cosmetics.
